The creators of the Anglepoise lamp – Herbert Terry & Sons, Redditch Worcestershire.
Original design by George Carwardine, an automotive engineer who specialised in vehicle suspension design. The first version of the Anglepoise lamp, the 1208, was produced by Herbert Terry in 1934 using four springs. Three years later, Herbert Terry introduced a new version, the 1227 with a two-tier base and a wider shade, which was capable of taking a 40-watt bulb. This lamp model remained in production for over 30 years and is still widely regarded as the archetypal Anglepoise lamp.
