Great amp – sounds just like it should.
Tested & electronics checked then used in our office for the last few months – we thought this would need some work after being in our (very dry) storage for so long- NADs often do. We almost wanted it to fault – but it hasn’t missed a beat. No noise. Doesn’t heat up excessively. Just a plain good’un.
The ‘i’ (improved) variant is the last of the 3020 models – basically the same as the original ‘3020 20’ design, however NAD identified a thermal issue when using 4ohm speaker sets. The ‘i’ model introduced a selectable mode switch – either 8 ohm or 4 ohm – this effectively decreases current when in 4ohm mode to prevent high temperatures being created within the amp. Improvements made to the power rectifier circuit – just a standard – ‘hmm we could do that better’ change that you get with later models.
Other changes in the ‘i’ are connectors have been moved to the back panel rather than a ‘pop out’ shelf – too much of a dust trap….. The speaker connectors upgraded to banana plug types. They also ditched those silly output power LEDs on the front panel. Your ears know if it’s loud. You don’t need flashing lights to tell you 🙂
Good condition – casing suffers the ‘NAD Poxs’ just as all the earlier NAD did – it’s a spotting to the paint work. Not an issue & only on the top & sides. It’s a NAD thing….
